Dornholzhausen

The district is in the north-west of Bad Homburg. It is a popular residential area. It borders on the Oberstedten district of Oberursel. Dornholzhausen is beautifully situated on the edge of the Taunus forests. The district has its own character.

Infrastructure

Dornholzhausen has good bus connections. The city bus lines 1 and 11 go to Bad Homburg. The B456 road leads to the north. You can reach the towns in Usinger Land via Saalburg. To the south you come to the towns in the front Taunus. There is also the A 661 highway.

There is an elementary school in Dornholzhausen. There are childcare facilities for children. There is a residential complex for senior citizens. There is also a day care center for the elderly. Many clubs help the community. There is a clubhouse. There is also the Peter-Schall-Haus. Clubs and private individuals can rent rooms there. There is a voluntary fire department. There is a fire station. The Waldensian church is important for the Protestant community. There are many stores on Lindenallee. You can buy everyday necessities there. The Dornholzhausen cemetery is on the north-eastern edge of the district.

Culture, leisure and surroundings

On the southern edge of Dornholzhausen lies the Landgrave's Garden Landscape. There is the deer garden, the bush meadows and the forest garden. There is a lot to do there. The Gothic House is also there. It used to be a hunting lodge. Today it houses the municipal historical museum and the city archives.

The Erlenhof stud farm is close to the district. There is also a golf course. You can go hiking there. There are interesting natural monuments. For example, the Süntel beech tree in the forest garden, the Elisabethenstein or the Marmorstein rock formation.

The Bad Homburg art association Artlantis e.V. enriches cultural life in the district. The Artlantis gallery is located in Tannenwaldweg.

History of Dornholzhausen

Dornholzhausen has existed since 1222, when it was first mentioned. It has had an exciting history ever since. In 1699, French Waldensian families founded a new settlement. The old village had been destroyed. The church was consecrated on Ascension Day in 1726. The religious refugees initially lived from farming. Later they worked for the hosiery and flannel manufacturers.

The people spoke French in church services until 1857 and in school until 1884. In 1899 there was an electric train from Homburg to Dornholzhausen. People praised the good air and the beautiful location.

Dornholzhausen local advisory council

There is a local advisory council in Dornholzhausen. That has been the case since 1972. This is stated in the agreements on incorporation. The citizens of Dornholzhausen elect the local council. This happens at the local elections. The rights and duties of the local advisory council are set out in the Hessian municipal code. The local advisory council can express an opinion on all issues. These issues affect the district. The local advisory council usually meets once a month. The meetings are held in the clubhouse. The meetings are open to the public.
