The spa gardens of Bad Homburg offer recuperation, amusement, adventure and enjoyment for young and old. The monument-listed and artistically designed gardenscape is not only the green heart of the city, it is also Germany's largest and most beautiful spa park. The Royal Prussian horticultural director, Peter Joseph Lenné, who became a legend in his own lifetime, immortalised himself with the creation of this park. With these nearly 40 hectares of parkland, he left behind for posterity a significant urban place of recreation. The gardens feature more than 136 species of shrubs and 82 species of trees, which have been nurtured and lovingly cared for for more than 150 years. Designed as an English landscape park, wide meadows and solitary trees, dense groups of trees, avenues, winding paths and a pond combine in natural harmony, making it hugely popular amongst spa guests as well as the local population. Its diversity makes every walk a colourful excursion into the world of botany. Historical buildings and monuments, which have been carefully erected over time, bear witness to the history of this formerly world-famous spa resort.
