Back in 1969, Isolde Schmitt-Menzel drew a small animal figure and created the now internationally famous orange mouse. This mouse quickly became the symbol of a popular German TV show, entitled "Lach- und Sachgeschichten" (Stories of Fact and Laughter) and later gave the "Sendung mit der Maus" (The Show with the Mouse) its name. In 2003, the artist, who divides her time between Texas and Bad Homburg, erected a small monument for the spa town, the famous mouse being cast in bronze. This sculpture was part of an extensive exhibition at the Gothic House Museum, in which Schmitt-Menzel's work was put on show. During another stay in Bad Homburg in 2013, the artist enlarged this last mouse at the request of the museum curator, Dr. Ursula Grzechca-Mohr. In the process, Isolde Schmitt-Menzel gave her famous little rodent a final form, the mouse having become an "adult". As it so happens, the sculpture was the last she created. The bronze casting is unique, the mould being owned by the City of Bad Homburg.
