It was just beyond Bad Homburg's "Buschwiesen" meadows that Frederick V, Landgrave of Hessen-Homburg, had a two-part trout pond created. This fish farm delivered fresh trout for the royal kitchens. Later, the trout farm was turned into a pool for the armed forces stationed here, then as a public bathing lake, and, finally, as a sunbathing area for both young and old. Today, the trout pond is used by an angling club. At present, the flora and fauna there are being carefully examined with the objective of elaborating a park maintenance programme aimed at safeguarding the biotopes to be found there. The re-restablishment of the former paths and walkways of this natural habitat is also planned. Last but not least, a recreational area on the southwestern corner of the "Buschwiesen" has already been redesigned.
