St. John's Church is affectionately known as the "Taunus Cathedral" because it is the largest church in the Vordertaunus. Situated on a hill in the city district of Kirdorf, its towers are more than 50 metres tall. The church was designed by the Mainz Cathedral master builder, Ignaz Opfermann, in the late-Classicist, round-arch style and consecrated in 1862. The symmetry, the uniform design of the building on both sides of the longitudinal axis and the position of the towers are all typical of those times. The church's monument-listed organ was built in 1861 by Hermann Dreymann, a member of famous Mainz organ-building family. In the mid-1960s, St John's Church was restored by the Bonn-based company, Klais, at which time a third manual, or keyboard, was added.
