The "Schmuckplatz", a decorative garden square along Kaiser Friedrich Promenade, is part of Bad Homburg's spa gardens. In the corners of the slightly oval-shaped square, one finds the busts of Kaiser Frederick III and his wife, Victoria of Prussia, also known as Empress Frederick. The Royal couple was so popular amongst Bad Homburg's citizenry that they dedicated the sculptures and the small garden to them after Kaiser Frederick III's death. The monument was unveiled in 1892 in the presence of the emperor's widow. Frederick III passed away in 1888 after only 99 days of rule. Ten years later, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the empress's death, a bust in her image was placed across from that of her husband. The larger-than-life busts of the royal couple were created by the Berlin sculptor, Joseph Uphues, in dazzling white marble.
