The Russian Chapel at the fringe of the spa gardens ranks amongst the most significant buildings in all of Bad Homburg. At the end of the 19th century, Russian aristocrats, high nobility and even the Czar family began coming to Homburg. Here, they cured themselves of their ails and enjoyed the attractions of the spa town and its high society. The casino was a particularly popular attraction. They had only one complaint! There was no place of worship for persons of the Orthodox faith. Homburg's privy councillor, Alexander Proworoff, locally known as the Rose Cavalier, became a patron for this cause. Back in St Petersburg, he worked tirelessly to secure funding, at the same time managing to obtain the services of the Czar's master architect, Louis Benois. Czar Nicolas II personally took part in the laying of the foundation stone in 1896. Three years later, the Church of All Saints was consecrated with much celebration.
