The organization of the fire department

In Bad Homburg, the fire department consists of full-time employees and volunteer firemen and women, who are organized into 6 district fire brigades. The control center of the Bad Homburg fire department is in Dietigheimer Strasse. The fire station in the middle of the city center can be reached by telephone around the clock in the event of an emergency (see contact below).

Of course, the Bad Homburg fire department also helps out with personnel and special equipment in areas other than the city. If there is an emergency, it is requested from other cities or federal states - such as during the flood of the century in Saxony.

The Bad Homburg district fire departments joined together in 1957 to form the district fire brigade association and are members of the Hochtaunus district fire brigade association. The individual fire brigades in the Hochtaunus district are organized in the district fire brigade association, whose responsibilities include conducting training courses at district level and managing the fire department's death fund in the district.

The full-time employees

Almost 40 fire department officers and part-time staff are on duty full-time from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays to ensure civil protection. They are based at the fire station in Dietigheimer Straße.

The prerequisite for full-time employment is a technical apprenticeship, a technical college degree (Bachelor) or a technical college degree (Master), depending on the job. A two-year career training course is also required.

The full-time emergency department deploys 90 seconds after receiving the alarm.

The fire department management is also responsible for developing and continuously refining operational standards and technical concepts. This also includes designing emergency response strategies and considering how existing and potential future threats can be safely controlled. The head of the fire department is Daniel Guischard, a graduate engineer. He is also Head of the Civil Protection Department at the city administration.

The six voluntary district fire brigades

In addition to the full-time employees who work at the fire station in Dietigheimer Strasse, there are more than 300 firefighters who volunteer their time at the city, Dornholzhausen, Kirdorf, Gonzenheim, Ober-Eschbach and Ober-Erlenbach fire departments. You can find more information about the individual brigades here.

The voluntary district fire brigades also take care of training the next generation. Even the youngest children can join the mini fire department. There is a youth fire department for teenagers. If you are interested in joining the volunteer fire department or would like to register your child, please contact the individual district fire brigades. Here are the contact details:
