History of the volunteer fire department

The volunteer fire department has a long tradition in Bad Homburg.

The oldest of the six district fire brigades is the Bad Homburg Stadt volunteer fire department, which was founded on June 15, 1859 in the "Zur Rose" inn. This made it the fourth volunteer fire department in the Duchy of Nassau after Wiesbaden, Herborn and Frankfurt-Höchst. At that time, the comrades still had to pay the rent for the equipment house - a barn with a water barrel and an ambulance - themselves. Today, the town fire brigade has a modern, centrally located fire station.

The volunteer fire department in the Kirdorf district was founded in 1887, preceded by a number of serious fires. Less than seven years later, the marching band was founded, which is still active and popular today.

The volunteer fire department in Dornholzhausen was formed in 1922 and the fire engine, which the then still independent municipality provided for the firefighters, is now in the fire department museum in Fulda. However, the firefighters had to wait until 1957 before they were provided with their own vehicle.

In 1899, a major fire in Gonzenheim, which originated in a barn, led to the founding of the volunteer fire department. Even then, the proverbial camaraderie of the firefighters applied: together with colleagues from neighboring towns, they succeeded in preventing major damage. the fire brigade was then founded in 1900.

The volunteer fire department in Ober-Erlenbach is comparatively young: it was founded in 1949. Prior to this, all residents were required to take part. After the volunteer fire department was founded, it shared its duties with a compulsory fire department.

The volunteer fire department has existed in Ober-Erlenbach since 1941.
