Due to changes in the legal framework, there will be new regulations for green waste collection from February 2025. The changes are primarily intended to protect the health and safety of employees. Bad Homburg is one of the municipalities that offer a green waste collection service in addition to the option of dropping off green waste at the recycling center.
The following changes will apply from February 2025:
- Provision: green waste may only be provided for collection in bundles or in multi-layer 80-liter paper bags (at least three layers).
- Ban on reusable containers: pop-up containers, big bags and cardboard boxes are no longer permitted for green waste disposal and will no longer be emptied.
In principle, the new regulations are based on occupational health and safety, the so-called load handling ordinance:
- Risk of injury due to improperly provided or excessively heavy green waste
- Risk of accidents due to wedged branches when lifting and transferring
- Health hazard due to mold spores in garden leaves
- Hygienic aspects due to fermentation liquid in containers or plastic bags
Previously, the containers, which are now no longer permitted, were transferred by hand by the disposal staff, but this is no longer permitted for health and safety reasons. Accordingly, the new measures are aimed at ensuring the safety and health of employees and at the same time ensuring efficient green waste disposal. The depot asks all citizens to observe and implement these new regulations. If you have any questions, please contact Meinhardt GmbH & Co KG, the waste disposal company responsible for green waste collection, on 0800-723 9338.
