History of the volunteer fire department
Bad Homburg has had a volunteer fire department for a long time.
The oldest fire department in the city districts is the Bad Homburg City Volunteer Fire Brigade. It was founded on June 15, 1859 in the "Zur Rose" inn. It was the fourth volunteer fire department in the Duchy of Nassau. The others were in Wiesbaden, Herborn and Frankfurt-Höchst. The firefighters used to have to pay the rent for the fire station themselves. The fire station was a barn with a water barrel and an ambulance. Today, the city fire brigade has a modern fire station in the city center.
