Mariánské Lázně

Mariánské Lázně is one of the West Bohemian spa towns. It also includes Karlovy Vary and Františkovy Lázně. Mariánské Lázně is also known as the "jewel of Czech spas". There are many promenade paths. The paths are very long. You can go for a walk there.

Jewel of the Czech spas

The city has many large buildings from the 19th century. Many buildings are beautifully made. There are many healing springs in Mariánské Lázně. The springs help with diseases of the respiratory tract, kidneys, urinary tract and bones. The Czech spa was popular with artists and famous people. Famous guests included Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Richard Wagner, Frédéric Chopin, Stefan Zweig and Franz Kafka. The English King Edward VII often came to Marienbad. He was there nine times. The town has many cultural attractions. In summer there are spa concerts in the colonnades. There are also theaters, concerts and dance evenings. A highlight is the Chopin Festival in August. You can take trips to Eger, Karlsbad, Franzensbad or Teplá Abbey. There is a special library there.

Start of the new spa season

The second weekend in May each year marks the opening of the spa season. The mineral springs are blessed. There is a large program. With this celebration, Marienbad commemorates the start of spa operations in 1808, when the monastery doctor Dr. Johann Josef Nehr and Abbot Karl Kaspar Reitenberger researched the springs. They also built spa buildings and parks. In 1818, Mariánské Lázně became a public spa. In 1865, Mariánské Lázně became a town.
