The town of Bad Homburg v.d.Höhe founded a partnership ring in 1956. This was a pioneering achievement. The partnership ring was intended to contribute to international understanding. People should meet each other. It was a step towards the political unity of Europe. Initially, six European cities were part of it. These cities were Bad Mondorf in Luxembourg, Cabourg in France, Chur in Switzerland, Mayrhofen in Austria and Terracina in Italy. Several attempts to include an English city failed at first. But nine years later, on October 9, 1965, Bad Homburg and Exeter in England signed an official partnership agreement. There had been a sponsorship for Marienbad / Marianske Lazne in the Czech Republic since 1953. After the fall of communism, they signed the partnership agreement on August 23, 1991. The partnership agreement with Peterhof in Russia followed on July 10, 1994. In 2002, Dubrovnik in Croatia became Bad Homburg's ninth twin town.
