History of Kirdorf
The Celts had a strong influence on the history of Kirdorf. The church village was first mentioned in writing in 892. Kirdorf was owned by Mainz. It then belonged to the Lords of Eppstein for a long time. In 1540, Kirdorf became Lutheran. A new Archbishop of Mainz reintroduced the Catholic faith. Kirdorf remained Catholic for a long time. The surrounding area was more Protestant.
In 1622, a large part of Kirdorf burned down. It took a long time to build the Catholic church. Later, the church was often damaged. Today's St. John's Church was consecrated in 1862. It is also known as the Taunus Cathedral. In 1911, there was once again a Protestant church service in Kirdorf. Kirdorf was dominated by Catholics. In 1858, Kirdorf came into contact with Homburg. From this time onwards, there were efforts between the two towns. Kirdorf was incorporated in 1901. Residential areas were built over the years. The infrastructure was expanded with a comprehensive school and a community center.
