Kirdorf

St. John's Church is the heart of Kirdorf. The church is also known as "Kirdorf Cathedral". Kirdorf offers a lot for residents and guests. Kirdorf is close to the center. Kirdorf is also on the edge of a large recreational area. The recreation area is called Kirdorfer Feld. It's a good place to live.

Infrastructure

Kirdorf is the northernmost district of Bad Homburg. Kirdorf lies at the foot of the Saalburg. Kirdorf is well connected to public transportation. Kirdorf can be reached by many city buses.

There are many childcare facilities for children. There are many leisure activities. There is an elementary school in Kirdorf. The elementary school is called Ketteler-Francke-Schule. There is also a secondary school. The school is called Gesamtschule am Gluckenstein. There are many sports facilities in Kirdorf. There is the Nord-West sports facility. There is the Wiesenborn sports field. There is also the Fichtenhof equestrian center. The volunteer fire department has its building in Usinger Weg. The steeples of the Protestant and Catholic churches are high. The Catholic St. Johanniskirche is particularly striking. The community center can be rented for events. There is a small "Kirdorf town center". The town center is in Kirdorfer Straße.

Culture, leisure and surroundings

To the north is the Kirdorfer Feld. It is a nature reserve. There are many fruit trees there. That's why there is an apple tree museum there. The forest is nearby. You can hike to Saalburg Castle there. On the edge of Kirdorfer Feld is the Northwest Sports Center. There are many sports fields there. There is also a mini golf course. The large sports clubs DJK Helvetia Kirdorf and SGK Bad Homburg offer many sporting opportunities.

Many clubs contribute to cultural life in Kirdorf. For example, the working group "Unser Kirdorf" (Our Kirdorf). There is also a local history museum. It is located in Pfarrer-Keutner-Straße. Many monuments commemorate the history of Kirdorf. Also at the cemetery in Friedensstraße. The Kirdorfer Kerb is very well known. It takes place every year in June.

History of Kirdorf

The Celts had a strong influence on the history of Kirdorf. The church village was first mentioned in writing in 892. Kirdorf was owned by Mainz. It then belonged to the Lords of Eppstein for a long time. In 1540, Kirdorf became Lutheran. A new Archbishop of Mainz reintroduced the Catholic faith. Kirdorf remained Catholic for a long time. The surrounding area was more Protestant.

In 1622, a large part of Kirdorf burned down. It took a long time to build the Catholic church. Later, the church was often damaged. Today's St. John's Church was consecrated in 1862. It is also known as the Taunus Cathedral. In 1911, there was once again a Protestant church service in Kirdorf. Kirdorf was dominated by Catholics. In 1858, Kirdorf came into contact with Homburg. From this time onwards, there were efforts between the two towns. Kirdorf was incorporated in 1901. Residential areas were built over the years. The infrastructure was expanded with a comprehensive school and a community center.

Kirdorf local council

Dornholzhausen has had a local council since 1972. This is stated in the agreements on incorporation. The citizens of the district elect the political body in local elections. The rights and duties of the local advisory council are set out in the Hessian municipal code. The local advisory council can comment on all issues. These issues affect the district. The committee normally meets every month. The meetings are held in the clubhouse. The meetings are open to the public.
