Twin towns

With the aim of contributing to international understanding and taking a step towards European political unity through people-to-people encounters, the town of Bad Homburg v.d.Höhe founded a partnership ring in 1956 in a pioneering move that initially included six European towns: Bad Mondorf in Luxembourg, Cabourg in France, Chur in Switzerland, Mayrhofen in Austria and Terracina in Italy. Several attempts to include an English town in the twinning ring were initially unsuccessful. But nine years later, on October 9, 1965, an official partnership agreement is signed with the city of Exeter (England). Building on the sponsorship of Marienbad / Marianske Lazne (Czech Republic), which had existed since 1953, the partnership agreement was signed on August 23, 1991 after the fall of communism. The partnership agreement with Peterhof in Russia followed on July 10, 1994 and in 2002 Dubrovnik (Croatia) became Bad Homburg's ninth twin town.

Over the course of time, partnerships that were initially only established with a view to youth exchanges have developed into lively exchanges between municipal administrations, clubs and associations, church congregations, groups of doctors, school classes from various schools and language course participants.
