Housing benefit is a state subsidy for low-income households and is paid as a rent subsidy or as an encumbrance allowance (for owner-occupiers).

The town of Bad Homburg v. d. Höhe grants a rent subsidy towards housing costs as a voluntary social benefit to ensure adequate and family-friendly housing. The subsidy is granted specifically to tenants who are above the income limits that apply to the granting of state housing benefit.

A certificate of eligibility for housing entitles you to move into a rental apartment subject to occupancy.

Families with one or more children can use this support program to obtain a loan from the city for the construction or purchase of their own home or owner-occupied
Condominiums or for the purchase or family-friendly conversion of old buildings or second-hand apartments.

Who can receive a subsidy from the state of Hesse?

Preference is given to families with children and households with special construction needs due to the disability of a member of the household

In justified cases, households without children or in the case of tenant privatization.

Subsidy for the construction of rental apartments

Loans can be applied for from the state of Hesse for the creation of new rental apartments in social housing construction.
This promotes the creation of affordable housing.

Modernization of rental apartments

As part of a state program, the state of Hesse promotes modernization measures in the rental housing stock of social housing
Housing stock (e.g. changes to floor plans, addition of balconies, measures to improve the living environment, modernization of sanitary facilities). Pure repair measures or energy-related renovations (e.g. insulation of the roof/exterior facade etc.) are excluded. Applications for this can also be submitted to our housing subsidy office.

Cost subsidies for the promotion of the conversion of owner-occupied residential property for the disabled

As part of a state program, the state of Hesse promotes structural measures, facilities and equipment on and in
existing owner-occupied dwellings and on the residential property (immediate residential environment). The apartments should
designed in such a way that disabled people can run their own household and live independently and autonomously
independently. In addition, the residential buildings and apartments should be barrier-free.
