Concert version with reader, soloists and the music of Georges Bizet
An amour fou, passion, jealousy and murder - the legendary story of Carmen and Don José is told in the new, concert version by Tscho Theissing gripping - with the world-famous brilliant music of Georges Bizet - but with a text that refers more strongly to the novella by Prosper Mérimée underlying the plot than the well-known opera libretto.
Actor Juergen Maurer, known from the Vienna Burgtheater and from television ("Tatort", "Vorstadtweiber"), slips into other male roles as a narrator. Carmen is portrayed by the sensational young mezzo-soprano Natalia Kawalek, who performs at the Theater an der Wien or at the opera, among others. Don José is the up-and-coming young tenor Juraj Holly, who is currently making a career in Germany.
The "orchestra" here consists of Sebastian Gürtler (violin), Tommaso Huber (accordion) and Georg Breinschmid (double bass), who have gained opera experience in the orchestras of the Vienna Volksoper and the Vienna Philharmonic, but also go completely different ways as soloists, chamber, jazz and world musicians.
