The so-called "Blunt" Tower is situated on a historical site, being a remnant of the inner city wall that separated the lower from the upper old town. It stood on one side of the former old market square. When the old city walls, which had become unnecessary, began to be demolished in 1804, the former fortification tower was preserved. Landgrave Ludwig VI had it reconstructed on its foundations in 1823 and lent the tower the appearance of a classicist monument, plastered and prpovided with a flat battlement.
