Drilled in 1841, the "Stahlbrunnen" is very rich in carbonic iron. So rich, in fact, that the famous German chemist, Justus von Liebig, said enthusiastically in 1841: "I hasten to inform you of the results. The iron content is far greater than I expected ... I consider this a very happy event for Homburg." The mineral source was rewalled in the mid-1960s. The sodium-chloride acidulous spring serves as a drinking fountain and is recommended to persons suffering from anaemia and to regulate blood pressure.
