Founded in 2002, the Ober-Erlenbach Local History Museum is Bad Homburg's oldest district museum. With its collections and documentations on local history, the museum offers visitors a closer look at the history of this formerly independent town. Particular emphasis has been placed on the inventions of the so-called "pioneer of fermentation-free fruit utilisation", including the "sterilisation jar", named after Josef Baumann, and the story of the state-approved teaching and testing institute for fermentation-free fruit utilisation, established in Ober-Erlenbach in 1934. Moreover, the museum also documents archaeological findings from the Stone Age (ca, 5500 BC), such as the "little piglet"  which represents linear pottery culture and was discovered during excavations between 1999 and 2001.
