Some 3,5750 square metres in size, the Little Pine Forest ("Kleine Tannenwald") is one of the true gems of Bad Homburg's Royal Garden Landscape. It was brought back to life in 2002 by the "Kleiner Tannenwald“ Foundation in collaboration with the City of Bad Homburg, who together returned large parts of the forest to its original state. The forest has more than 70 trees older than 220 years. The forest's existence dates back to the 17th century. It was Landgrave Frederick V. Ludwig and Caroline who first gave shape to the forest. In 1822, the "English" Landgravine Elizabeth added further attractions to the site, including a small model farm designed after the English original, featuring a cottage and a dairy for dairy farming. These buildings have fallen into disrepair but plans exist to one day restore or rebuilt them according to historical models.
