On the 50th anniversary of his accession to power, the citizens of Homburg paid a special tribute to their sovereign, Landgrave Frederick V. From this time onwards, a columned monument adorned the castle forecourt. This was not its first and final location, however. The Landgrave's Column changed sites several times. In 1835, it was moved to Ludwig's favourite garden, the "Lustwald". In the 1960s, the column was moved once again, this time to the castle park. Today, it stands next to the castle entrance on Herrngasse. A copy of the monument is located on the "Rond Point" in the pleasure forest, "Die Große Tanne".
