Inaugurated in 1893, the former Imperial Post Office of Bad Homburg is today a monument-listed building. Situated directly opposite the Kurhaus, it was used as the city's main post office until 1972. When the old post office at Louisenstraße 70 had become too small, General Postmaster Heinrich von Stephan visited Bad Homburg in 1886 to inspect various buildings suited to be the city's future post office. In 1890, the Imperial Post purchased the "Europäische Hof“, a hotel situated at Louisenstraße 65, for 130,000 marks. The hotel was torn down and the new municipal post office built from 1891 to 1893.
