The castle gardens appear so beautiful and regal today that one wouldn't be surprised to run into the landgrave or emperor coming around the next corner. The Landgrave's Castle is particularly famous well beyond Bad Homburg's city limits for its magnificent gardens. Originating from the old gardens, an orchard laid out in basic style already existed in the early 17th century. When the castle was rebuilt, an ornate formal and axial Baroque-style garden, replete with an orangery, was established on the east side of the castle. Today, this part of the castle features a Lebanon cedar planted in 1820, the lovely rose terrace and a number of restored imperial carpet beds. From 1770 onwards, the southern and western garden areas were gradually redesigned in the style of the English landscape park. These areas continue to shape the image of the castle gardens to this today. They are open all year round.
