Project-related participation

In addition to the Youth Advisory Council (delegated representation of young people's interests at local political level), young people from Bad Homburg v. d. Höhe have the opportunity to participate in individual projects.

Ongoing projects

Upgrading the Kälberstücksweg ball games area (Gartenfeld)

In cooperation with the Gartenfeld/Berliner Siedlung social space office of the Caritasverband Hochtaunus and together with a committed group of young people and adults, work was carried out to upgrade the "Kälberstücksweg" ball games area.

The working group presented its wishes for the design of the area to the city council in October 2023. The area is to become a place where young people in particular can spend time and pursue their leisure interests. The city administration is now examining the implementation of the ideas.

Completed projects

Renovation of the skate park

The new skate park has been officially open for use since June 2023.

The facility offers riders: miniramp with bowl corner, chinabank with double wave, curb, flatrail with intermediate rail, quarterpipe with extensions.

Here is the chronology of the project:

  • in 2020, young Bad Homburg skaters visited the old skate park together with the youth education center and gathered ideas for a renovation.
  • Based on these ideas, the administration and the commissioned planning office PGNU from Frankfurt developed three concrete proposals for the existing 510 m² area, which were released for evaluation and comment on the Bad Homburg city website in spring 2021. The wishes and suggestions for the proposed options were very varied. All contributions were analyzed.
  • After a proposal or a mixture of two variants was favored and the project was supposed to get underway, events came thick and fast: The selected construction company did not submit a bid despite several requests and was therefore not awarded the contract. In addition, the city of Bad Homburg received calls from the national skate scene. Experts had examined the designs and advised against all three variants. The large concrete blocks of the old facility, which were to be retained in all variants, were no longer up to date and offered few individual riding options. As a result, the ride would quickly lose its appeal and not achieve the desired goal.
  • On the basis of these events and findings, the city decided to completely redesign the conversion and gave young people another opportunity in mid-July 2022 to make their suggestions on the planning status on site. The final plans were then drawn up.
  • After the winter of 2022, things went very quickly: the old obstacles were removed at the beginning of April 2023. The company Yamato Living Ramps then began building the new elements.

Upgrading the Seulberger Str. (Ober-Erlenbach) bouldering area

In the Ober-Erlenbach district, the renovated boul court and a calisthenics scaffold near the Wingert sports center have been available for use since mid-2022. This small section of space between the pedestrian and cycle path and Seulberger Straße had looked somewhat derelict and unused for a few years. However, residents regularly met here to play bocce ball together. Following requests from local young people and a request from the local council for sports and fitness equipment, the city council examined the possibilities for the area.

In order to plan the area for the joint use of fitness and boules in line with requirements, employees of the city administration met on site in September 2020 together with the local mayor, young people and boules players. The meeting was also used by those present to talk to each other and draw up 'rules of use'.

Rules of use: All users are requested to keep the court clean, people are allowed to stay until midnight, the volume must be lowered from 10 p.m. (night-time quiet), the existing boules groups have priority on the boules court at their usual times.
