Bad Homburg Action Days for International Women's Day 2024

the Bad Homburg Action Days will take place from March 8 to 13 on the occasion of International Women's Day 2024. Together with the Bad Homburg network of women's associations and organizations, the municipal women's representative and the municipal library cordially invite you to a varied program with an exhibition, workshops, party, lectures, film, professional women's fair and much more.

The range of topics is broad and deals with financial equality and self-determination, rebels who changed the world, the strength to defend oneself against racist and sexual harassment, equal opportunities and a professional future and, last but not least, the question of what it actually means to be a woman.

International Women's Day 2022

To mark International Women's Day, the city's municipal women's representative and the Bad Homburg Women's Network have invited people to the online event "Who cares? Ways out of the care trap" on Saturday, March 5, 2022, from 3 to 4.30 pm.

The coronavirus pandemic has once again highlighted the lack of appreciation and invisibility of both paid and unpaid care work. It is predicted that personal services in the health, education, social and care sectors will make up by far the largest professional sector in 2030. These system-relevant professions are predominantly carried out by women and are often characterized by work intensification, overload and staff shortages.

A large proportion of unpaid care work takes place in the home. Here, too, it is predominantly women who take care of human and social needs such as education, nursing, care, housework and much more. The time they spend on this - and that is a good 50 percent more (!) than men - is not available for paid work, which has a huge impact on a living wage and later retirement.

So what needs to happen to make both paid and unpaid care work fair and gender-equitable? This will be discussed with the panel guests.

General information on International Women's Day

Women's organizations around the world celebrate International Women's Day

The German women's rights activist Klara Zetkin had the idea for International Women's Day as early as 1910, and the first International Women's Day was celebrated on March 19, 1911. More than a million women took to the streets in Germany with the demand "Out with the right to vote". In 1921, International Women's Day was moved to March 8. Even today, it is still an important day on which attention is drawn to violations of women's rights and inequalities in a variety of ways - with events, campaigns and demonstrations. Women in Bad Homburg also use this day to focus on the issues of equality and equal opportunities for men and women with various public campaigns and events.

International Women's Day 2020

We want to examine the question of whether and, if so, how the role models of women and men, girls and boys have changed, want to shed light on which measures and legal regulations (e.g. parental allowance and parental leave law) have had an effect, want to talk about negotiation processes in young families with children and ask where there are further levers for changes towards equality.
