Travel safely at a distance

For more safety when overtaking in road traffic

Greater safety on the roads makes a decisive contribution to ensuring that everyone feels comfortable in the daily hustle and bustle of traffic! That's why we support the new state campaign of the Hessian Ministry of Economics, Energy, Transport and Housing "Safe on the Road with Distance": It raises awareness of the correct distance when overtaking, but also of other important traffic rules.

Do you know the overtaking distance in urban and rural areas? What is your general knowledge of correct and considerate behavior on the road? You can take an interactive look at your knowledge and learn something new: use the online quiz for the campaign and put your knowledge to the test.

A key factor for greater safety is the correct overtaking distance between motor vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians. This is at least 1.5 meters in built-up areas and at least 2 meters outside built-up areas. You can find out why it is so important to keep enough distance and what other rules need to be observed on the campaign homepage. There you will also find the online quiz and the answers to other questions about road safety.

Creative kids

1.5 meters is the minimum distance when overtaking in urban areas - but how can you actually get a good idea of 1.5 meters in everyday life? What helps in everyday road traffic to estimate the minimum distance and thus to be able to keep it even better?

With a creative competition, the "Safe on the road with distance" campaign has invited people to take a creative look at precisely these questions.

Congratulations!

For Bad Homburg, the Engelsgasse daycare center entered the competition with its contribution from a child's perspective and won first prize! The children and the daycare center team are delighted to receive a voucher worth 1000 euros from an online bicycle store.

Federal campaign

There are also campaigns for greater road safety from the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport. Videos featuring the cult character Pumuckl are brand new.
