History of Dornholzhausen

Dornholzhausen was first mentioned in a document in 1222 and can look back on a varied history since then. in 1699, a new settlement was founded by French Waldensian families on the site of the destroyed village. The present church was consecrated on Ascension Day 1726. In the first years of their settlement, the religious refugees lived mainly from agriculture, later the people began to work for the hosiery and flannel manufacturers.

The people kept their French language in church services until 1857, and it even remained in the school until 1884. With the establishment of the electric railroad from Homburg to Dornholzhausen in 1899, people began to emphasize the good air and the beautiful location.

Dornholzhausen local advisory council

Dornholzhausen has had a local advisory council since 1972 as a result of the agreements on incorporation in the course of the territorial reform. This political body is elected by the citizens of the district in local elections. The rights and duties of the local advisory council can be found in the Hessian municipal code. For example, the local advisory council can comment on all issues affecting the district. The committee usually meets monthly in the clubhouse in public sessions.
