Bad Homburg v. d. Höhe is the district town of the Hochtaunus district and, with just under 55,000 inhabitants, also its most populous municipality. The urban area covers around 52 km². The town has a special status, which means that it takes on certain tasks of the district.

Centrally located in the Rhine-Main region between the metropolis of Frankfurt am Main in the south and the Taunus mountains in the north, Bad Homburg presents itself as a traditional spa town and popular excursion destination as well as a strong business location and attractive shopping town.

Bad Homburg's landmarks include the Landgrave's Palace with its imposing white tower, the extensive spa gardens as a nature experience and home to the François Blanc casino, Louisenstraße with its diverse shopping opportunities and the two large churches St. Marien and Erlöserkirche.

The history of Bad Homburg is largely characterized by the seat of the former Landgraviate of Hesse-Homburg (1622-1866) as well as the spa and casino with international guests from the mid-19th century. Due to the influence of British spa guests, both tennis and golf were born in Bad Homburg on the European mainland.
