Digital photo for electronic residence permit

Since 01.05.2025, a digital photo is required for an electronic residence permit.

The following providers are currently authorized for this purpose, where you can have 6 paper photos and an additional QR code with the digital photos created before your appointment with the authorities (the corresponding locations are linked):

A digital photo can also be taken directly on site at the appointment with the authorities for a fee of €6. Please allow extra time for this.

Current information for Ukrainian refugees

The residence permits of refugees from Ukraine who fled the Russian war of aggression and received protection in Germany will automatically remain valid until March 4, 2026. This was determined by the Federal Ministry of the Interior and for Home Affairs (BMI) by statutory order. This means that those affected do not have to apply for an extension of their residence status and no appointments with the immigration authorities are necessary.
