The Bad Homburg water traffic light

The decreasing rainfall and consumption peaks in the hot summer months of recent years have shown how important it is to use our drinking water responsibly.

Stadtwerke Bad Homburg would like to inform you about the current drinking water situation in Bad Homburg with the water traffic light and motivate you to adapt your consumption behavior.

The water traffic light is currently GREEN

The current drinking water consumption in Bad Homburg is below the average consumption and can be ensured by the company's own extraction plants and the external water supply.

There are no restrictions.

Explanation of the traffic light phases

Please note the following explanations of the individual traffic light phases and adjust your use of drinking water accordingly. Especially in the warm and dry months from May to September, you should regularly check the current traffic light status. Act responsibly!
  • The current drinking water consumption in Bad Homburg is below the average consumption and can be ensured by the company's own extraction plants and the external water supply.

    There are no restrictions.

  • Drinking water consumption is currently well above average. The company's own extraction plants are operated at a high flow rate. External water consumption is high and the maximum amount of external water available is required.

A reduction in drinking water consumption is necessary!

    We therefore call on you:

    • Use drinking water sparingly and only where it is necessary!
    • Limit watering your garden to a maximum of two watering sessions per week!
    • Refrain from watering lawns!
    • Do not use drinking water for washing vehicles, cleaning the outside of buildings, terraces or similar applications!
    • Refrain from filling pools, cisterns or other water reservoirs!
    • If you urgently need to take larger quantities of drinking water, e.g. from standpipes, please contact us in advance.
  • For several days now, drinking water consumption has reached daily peaks that exceed the available quantity. It is no longer possible to increase the company's own delivery volumes. The maximum possible volume of external water has been exhausted.

In order to secure the drinking water supply in Bad Homburg, to keep fire-fighting water reserves available and to avoid a drinking water emergency, an immediate and significant reduction in drinking water consumption is absolutely essential!

We therefore urge you to comply with the following rules in addition to the requirements of the "yellow traffic light":

    • stop watering your garden/lawn immediately
    • only water new plantings moderately
    • refrain from drawing drinking water from standpipes
  • A drinking water emergency exists if the supply of drinking water is at risk. This is particularly the case if the water provided is not sufficient to supply the city area or a sub-area. In this case, a drinking water emergency is declared in accordance with the hazard prevention ordinance of the city of Bad Homburg v. d. Höhe dated 27.11.2019.

During the drinking water emergency, all non-essential drinking water consumption is prohibited. Only use for personal hygiene, toilet flushing, drinking and cooking is permitted.

Administrative offenses can be punished with a fine of up to 5,000 euros. In addition, the municipal authorities can impose curfews on the supply of drinking water.
