Noise protection

The city of Bad Homburg is also affected by aircraft noise, and the city's own measuring station documents the noise emissions.

According to an expert assessment, long-term measurements carried out by the company itself clearly show that all guideline and limit values are clearly undercut.

Aircraft noise is an important issue in the Rhine-Main region due to the high volume of air traffic at Frankfurt Airport. Different areas of the region are affected differently by aircraft noise from the overflights of landing and taking-off aircraft.

The area around the town of Bad Homburg is affected by one departure route in particular during easterly winds (approx. 30% of the year). On the so-called flight route 07-Short, small and medium-sized aircraft take off over Bad Homburg. However, this only takes place between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m.; at other times, flights are prohibited. Bad Homburg is also affected by the landing approach, which also partly takes place over the Bad Homburg district during the airport's operating hours (5 a.m. to 11 p.m.); flights are generally prohibited at night.

For various reasons, such as safety requirements (e.g. in the event of thunderstorms), there are always extraordinary changes to the approaches and departures - including those of individual aircraft - which are instructed by the responsible air traffic control authority.

Funding program for noise protection windows

The city of Bad Homburg subsidizes the installation of noise-insulating windows and exterior doors.

The subsidy program of the town of Bad Homburg v.d.Höhe for the granting of subsidies for the installation of noise-insulating windows was adopted by the town council on 17.07.2003. Since then, any natural or legal person under private law has been able to apply for a grant from the town of Bad Homburg v.d.Höhe for the installation of noise-insulating windows and exterior doors in accordance with the guidelines for apartments owned or rented by them. Subsidies are available for the installation of noise-insulating windows and doors in living rooms (living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens) in apartments that are exposed to high levels of road traffic noise and were ready for occupancy before 01.01.1972. The installation measures are eligible if the distance between the window and the edge of the road is no more than 10 m and the newly installed windows provide insulation (noise level difference from inside to outside) of at least 35 dB (A).

Subsidy

A subsidy of max. 40% of the eligible costs can be granted if funds from this program are used exclusively. The maximum eligible costs are calculated from € 350 per square meter of window area, € 65 per window for the costs of installation and an additional € 400 for soundproofed ventilation equipment per bedroom window.

Required documents

The following documents must be enclosed with the application:

  • Quotation from the company carrying out the work, stating the sound insulation value and the window dimensions
  • Photograph or floor plan of the house showing which windows are to be replaced and fitted with soundproof glass (please mark)
  • Land register extract of section 1 or purchase contract
  • If the measure is carried out by the tenant, the landlord's declaration of consent must be submitted.

Air traffic display

In its informative access to air traffic and noise data relating to Frankfurt Airport, the "Umwelthaus" also enables the Bad Homburg measuring station to be displayed and queried. The data on aircraft noise, flight altitude, flight speed or aircraft type, among other things, can be queried almost live - with a maximum time delay of 2 hours and retrospectively.

The German Aircraft Noise Service also offers a similar query service.
