Why Bad Homburg is a "Fairtrade Town"

To be allowed to bear the title "Fairtrade Town", each town must fulfill certain criteria. These also depend on the size of the town.

1. Criterion

The municipality has decided to use Fairtrade coffee plus one other Fairtrade product at all committee and council meetings and in the mayor's office. The decision is made to strive for the title "Fairtrade City" as a city.

2. Criterion

A local steering group is formed. It should coordinate the activities on the way to becoming a "Fairtrade city".

3. Criterion

Fairtrade products are offered in local retail outlets and Fairtrade products are served in cafés and restaurants (at least two Fairtrade products each). The number of stores and restaurants depends on the number of inhabitants. In Bad Homburg, 11 retailers and 6 restaurants must offer Fair Trade products.

4. Criterion

Fair Trade products must be used in public institutions such as schools, clubs and churches. In addition, these institutions must also provide evidence of educational activities on the subject of "Fair Trade".

5. Criterion

The local media report on all activities on the way to becoming a "Fairtrade town".
