Arbitration offices

Arbitration offices help with disputes. They are independent. They resolve the dispute.

Tasks

The arbitration offices work according to the principle of "mediation instead of judgment". They are responsible for the following tasks

  • Disputes about money up to a certain amount
  • Disputes with neighbors
  • Disputes about personal honor

The arbitrators must keep everything secret. They first speak calmly with the parties involved. Then they try to find an agreement. There is no adjudication. The Hessian Ministry of Justice provides a lot of information about the tasks of the arbitration offices. More information about the work of the arbitration offices can be found at the Bund Deutscher Schiedssmänner und Schiedsfrauen. You often have to go to the arbitration office first. Only then can you go to court. The aim is to reduce the workload of the courts. Disputes should be resolved peacefully.
