The magistrate is the administration of the city. The magistrate takes care of the day-to-day tasks. The magistrate has three members who do this as a profession. The magistrate has eleven members who do this voluntarily. The head of the Magistrat is Lord Mayor Alexander W. Hetjes. The members who do this as a profession are elected for six years. The members who do this voluntarily are elected for five years.
Tasks of the Magistrate
The magistrate has these tasks:
- The magistrate executes laws and rules.
- The magistrate prepares and implements decisions.
- The magistrate performs tasks that it is required to perform.
- The magistrate manages the city's facilities and businesses.
- The magistrate takes care of the city's taxes and revenues.
- The magistrate prepares the budget and the investment program.
- The magistrate represents the city externally.
- The magistrate informs the citizens.
The voluntary members of the municipal council reflect the majorities of the municipal council.
The entire magistrate takes part in the meetings of the municipal council. The members who do this for a living are always allowed to speak. However, they are not allowed to vote. Members of the municipal council cannot be councillors at the same time.
