The Memorial for the 80th Regiment was created to commemorate the fallen of the 80th Gersdorff Fusilier Regiment. The monument pays tribute to all those who -- even in defeat -- died to defend their fatherland. The "Eightieth" were soldiers, mostly of noble stock, whose regiment was stationed in Bad Homburg from 1871 to 1918. In those times, they formed the necessary military presence during official events. The memorial was designed by a Frankfurt architect named Mr Schmalz and created by the Dyckerhoff & Neumann Marble Works, Wetzlar.
