History of Bad Homburg

The town center of Bad Homburg can look back on a long history. The first documented mention of the town dates back to 782. In 1330, Bad Homburg was granted city rights, which formed the basis for the further development of the town. The striking White Tower, which is now the town's landmark, was built in the 12th century and originally served as the keep of a medieval castle.

In the 19th century, Bad Homburg experienced an economic boom thanks to the discovery of its healing springs and its development into a spa town. Prominent guests, including members of European aristocratic houses, visited the town and left their mark on the architecture and culture. The Landgrave's Palace, originally a medieval castle, was rebuilt several times over the centuries and is now an important historical and cultural center.
