Ecoprofit

A sensible combination of ecology and economy to develop an operational environmental management system.

What is Ökoprofit?

With competent external support, the participating companies develop and implement practical measures on the basis of a comprehensive inventory, with which the participating companies reduce costs and protect the environment. This optimal combination of ecology and economy involves larger and smaller companies from various sectors.

"Environmental protection with profit" is the subtitle of the ÖKOPROFIT project

(ECOlogical PROject for IntegratedEnvironmentalTechnology), which has made a name for itself worldwide as an Agenda 21 project. Almost at the same time as the Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, a network of committed experts from science, business and administration was formed in Graz (Austria). This collaboration gave rise to ÖKOPROFIT®, an environmental consulting program with the common goal of implementing the principle of sustainability in commercial enterprises in a practice-oriented manner. In Germany, ÖKOPROFIT was carried out for the first time in Munich. There are now ECOPROFIT projects in around 100 other German cities and districts, and municipalities in Central and Eastern Europe, Central and South America, China and South East Asia are also participating in ECOPROFIT® internationally.

Ökoprofit in Bad Homburg and the Hochtaunus region

In 2004, the city of Bad Homburg initiated an ECOPROFIT project with the aim of providing companies in the Hochtaunus region with a suitable consulting program for the sensible combination of ecology and economy and for the development of a company environmental management system.

Due to its great success, a second round of ÖKOPROFIT - now called "ÖKOPROFIT Vordertaunus" - was carried out in cooperation with the towns of Friedrichsdorf, Kronberg and Oberursel. The cooperation has since been extended by the town of Usingen and the project has been continued under the name "ÖKOPROFIT Hochtaunus". In the current round, the town of Karben is also participating in the project for the first time.

The aforementioned towns are providing funding for the implementation of the ÖKOPROFIT project. The environmental consulting company Arqum was commissioned to carry out the project.

More than 40 companies from Bad Homburg and the region have now taken part, and there is also an Ökoprofit Club round with 17 participating companies, which is already in its fourth year of the project. The savings that have been achieved in energy consumption and the use of resources are considerable. As are the financial savings. Due to this success, a further project is now carried out every year.

Detailed information on Ökoprofit Hochtaunus and the results can be found in the brochures under Downloads.

Ökoprofit Kita

As part of the three-year inter-municipal ÖKOPROFIT-Kitas project, the towns of Bad Homburg, Friedrichsdorf and Oberursel want to work together with competent external support to extend these efforts to municipal daycare centers in a practical way and also contribute to exemplary sustainable environmental education from kindergarten age.

Ökoprofit in the city administration

The city of Bad Homburg v. d. Höhe is not only a cooperation partner, but also a participant with three municipal companies and parts of the city administration. In addition to the town hall, the depot and the Seedammbad have also successfully participated in Ökoprofit and are now "ÖKOPROFIT companies" (see award). Kur- und Kongress GmbH also successfully participated with the Kur- und Kongresshaus in 2012.
