WLAN

The aim of the WLAN project is to install or provide WLAN in all buildings of the municipal group - at every location (99% coverage). This also includes the elimination of additional logins (without login) for the Group's own devices.

WIFI hotspots

Public Wi-Fi enables citizens, tourists and business travelers to access the Internet without having to rely on their own mobile data. This promotes connectivity and the exchange of information.

It enables people with limited access to internet services to obtain information online, maintain social contacts and integrate into the digital society.

WLAN in buses

In a joint project, the cities of Bad Homburg, Oberursel and Friedrichsdorf have equipped their city buses with advanced on-board computers in order to modernize local public transport and offer passengers innovative services.

The new on-board computers monitor and document all bus processes, from opening doors to issuing tickets. They offer passengers real-time information at stops, QR code verification of tickets, integration of the RMV Go app, free Wi-Fi and improved complaints management.

The control center has direct access to the buses, which enables quick reactions, while drivers benefit from navigation functions, automatic connection protection and monitoring of the electric bus charging status.

Innovative technology also enables targeted advertising on the bus, controlled from a central point. The total cost of the project is 1.3 million euros, with citizen participation during pilot operation to optimize the system.

The project marks a significant step towards digital innovation in public transport and promises a sustainable improvement in the passenger experience in the participating cities.

Comic WLAN in buses

This is Dörte. Dörte lives in the countryside and regularly takes the bus to Bad Homburg to go to university or visit friends. Due to her long journey, she does a lot of her homework or research for studying on the bus. Dörte can use free WLAN at the university. As she spends a lot of time on buses due to her rural location, her data volume was always used up quickly and she was no longer able to study for university or visit social networks at the end of the month.

A few months ago, Dörte visited a friend in Darmstadt, where all buses and trains have free Wi-Fi. She liked the idea so much that she immediately made an appointment at a town hall meeting to put forward her concerns. Here she learned that there is already a converted bus fleet that uses the same system as RMV to enable a seamless transition. Dörte is delighted because she can now use free Wi-Fi on her way to university, to visit friends, to the swimming pool and even to Frankfurt.
