Ober-Erlenbach

Ober-Erlenbach is close to the city. Ober-Erlenbach is still a village. Ober-Erlenbach is culturally independent. The district lies on the edge of the Wetterau. People lived here very early on. Archaeological finds show this.

Infrastructure

Ober-Erlenbach is a little further away from Bad Homburg. However, the district is well connected to Bad Homburg and the villages nearby. For example with Karben. The city buses 2 and 12 take you to the city center. There are two daycare centers. There is also a crèche and an after-school care center. The childcare is good.

The Paul-Maar-Schule offers childcare for pupils. There is a family center. There is also a youth center. The cemetery is in Wetterauer Straße. There is the Erlenbachhalle in the town center. There is also a sports facility on Seulberger Straße.

Culture, leisure and surroundings

Ober-Erlenbach takes its name from the Erlenbach. The Erlenbach flows through the district. There are lots of fields all around. The Lohwald forest is close by. You can relax there. There are many half-timbered houses in the village center. They are beautiful. St. Martin's Church is important for the Catholic community. There is a Dreymann organ there. It is well worth seeing. The Protestant community center is on Holzweg.

The volunteer fire department is in Ahlweg. The fire station is there. The Zehntscheune is important for culture. Exhibitions and events are held there. There is also the Ober-Erlenbach Heimatstube museum. The Kerb is held every year in mid-September. Many clubs offer sports. They do a lot for culture and social life.

The history

The village was independent until 1972. It has an interesting history. Two counts and the Lords of Eppstein ruled the village. ober-Erlenbach became Lutheran in 1538. in 1581, the Archbishopric of Mainz took over the rule. Ober-Erlenbach became Catholic again. St. Martin's Church, the schoolhouse and the tithe building were built. These buildings are still important for the district today.

In the 1930s, there was a fruit processing center on the site of today's Erlenbachhalle. This made the place famous in professional circles. After the Second World War, many refugee families came to the village. They had to be integrated. With these and other new citizens, more Protestants came to Ober-Erlenbach. Until then, the village had been predominantly Catholic.

Ober-Erlenbach local council

Ober-Erlenbach has had a local advisory council since 1972. This is stated in the agreements on incorporation. The citizens of Ober-Erlenbach elect the local council. This takes place during local elections. The rights and duties of the local advisory council are set out in the Hessian municipal code. The local advisory council can comment on all issues. These questions concern the district. The committee usually meets on a Tuesday each month. The meeting is held in the Erlenbachhalle.
