History of Gonzenheim
There are archaeological finds in Gonzenheim. These findings show that people lived there very early on. Gonzenheim was first mentioned in a document in 1367. The community was initially Catholic. It became Protestant around 1525. For a long time, Gonzenheim was a village of farmers. At the end of the 19th century, people wanted the village to grow. A railroad station was built. The station was on the territory of Gonzenheim. However, the village only became better connected with the new railroad line, which is now a subway. This line was completed in 1910.
On April 1, 1937, Gonzenheim became part of a larger town. This was decided by the Chief President of Hesse-Nassau. There were many disputes before that. The borders were often changed. After that, the village changed rapidly. There were more streets and houses. a settlement was built in 1955. This settlement was for people who came from Marienbad and the Egerland.
