History of the city

History

The name of the town of Homburg comes from the castle "Hohenberg". The name Homburg was used for the first time around 1500. In 1528, the town was also called "Homburg vor der Höhe". Since people have been bathing there, the town has been called "Bad Homburg".

"Bathroom" with a lot of approval

The landgrave did not want the addition of "Bad". He wanted to omit the addition "vor der Höhe". He wanted to keep the residence of the Landgrave of Hesse's princely house. The spa association said that the addition of "Bad" was good for traffic. There are many towns with similar names. The name Bad Homburg made the town known as a spa town.

in 1912, the magistrate agreed to the addition of "Bad" and "vor der Höhe". The ministry was against it. The Kaiser decided in favor of the town. Since 22.11.1912, the town has been called Bad Homburg vor der Höhe. The Kaiser agreed.
