Digital photo for electronic residence permit

Since 01.05.2025, a digital photo is required for an electronic residence permit.

The following providers are currently authorized for this purpose, where you can have 6 paper photos and an additional QR code with the digital photos created before your appointment with the authorities (the corresponding locations are linked):

A digital photo can also be taken directly on site at the appointment with the authorities for a fee of €6. Please allow extra time for this.

Current information for people from Ukraine who have fled.

Refugees from Ukraine have a residence permit. They have fled the war. They have been granted protection in Germany. The residence permit is valid until March 4, 2026, according to a decision by the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Home Affairs. The refugees do not have to submit an application. They do not have to go to the foreigners authority.
