Local councils

The city council of Bad Homburg made a decision on September 17, 2015. There are now four new local districts. There are already the local districts of Dornholzhausen, Ober-Eschbach and Ober-Erlenbach. Now there are also the local districts of Berliner Siedlung/Gartenfeld, Gonzenheim, Innenstadt and Kirdorf. Each local district has a local advisory council. Each local council has nine members.

  • The people in a district can make ideas and suggestions. They do this through the local council. The local advisory council does the work of the people. It looks after the interests of the district. It describes the situation in the district.

  • The local advisory council may make suggestions. The proposals concern the local district. The local advisory council discusses important matters. These matters concern the local district. The local advisory council discusses the draft budget. The local advisory council provides answers. The municipal council or the magistrate ask questions.

  • The local advisory council elects one person. This person is the local councillor. The role is similar to that of the head of the municipal council. The person invites people to the meetings. The person chairs the meetings. The person signs the minutes.

  • People elect the local councils. This happens every five years. The election is held at the same time as the local elections. The previous local councillor invites people to the first meeting. If the local advisory council is being set up for the first time, the mayor sends out invitations.

  • The meetings of the local councils are open to the public. Sometimes the public cannot attend. This happens with land transactions. The invitation says so.

  • The local council takes care of traffic. The local council takes care of construction. The local council takes care of redevelopment. The local council takes care of street names. The local council takes care of design in the district. The local council takes care of maintenance in the district. The local council takes care of culture.

  • There is a question and answer session before every meeting of the local advisory council. Citizens can ask questions.

  • The local councils usually meet once a month. They do not meet during the vacations. The invitations to the meetings are published in the daily newspapers. They can also be found on the municipal website. They are also displayed in the town hall in front of the town store.
