WLAN in buses

The towns of Bad Homburg, Oberursel and Friedrichsdorf have worked together. They have modernized their city buses. The buses now have new on-board computers. This improves local public transport. Passengers get new services.

The new on-board computers monitor everything on the bus. They can see when the doors open. They can see when tickets are sold. Passengers receive real-time information at the stops. They can check tickets with a QR code. The RMV Go app is integrated. There is free WLAN. Complaints are handled better.

The control center can access the buses directly. So they can react quickly. The drivers have navigation functions. They know whether they will make the connection. They can see how much the electric bus is charged.

The new technology makes advertising on the bus possible. The advertising is controlled from a central point. The project costs a lot of money. The citizens are helping. This makes the system better.

The project is a big step. It brings digital innovations to local public transport. It makes the journey better for passengers. The cities benefit from it.

WLAN in buses

This is Dörte. Dörte lives in the country. She often takes the bus to Bad Homburg. She goes to university or to visit friends. Dörte has a long journey. She does a lot of homework on the bus. She does research for her studies on the bus. Dörte can use WLAN free of charge at the university. Dörte spends a lot of time on buses. Her data volume was quickly used up. She could no longer study for university at the end of the month. She could no longer visit social networks.

Dörte was with a friend in Darmstadt a few months ago. All buses and trains there have free Wi-Fi. Dörte liked this idea. She made an appointment at the town hall. She wanted to put forward her request. Dörte found out that there is a converted bus fleet. These buses use the same system as the RMV. So there is a seamless transition. Dörte is delighted. She can use WLAN free of charge on her way to university. She can go to friends, to the swimming pool and all the way to Frankfurt for free Wi-Fi.
