WIR - Diversity Center Bad Homburg
Since 2014, the Hessian Ministry for Social Affairs and Integration (HMSI) has been providing technical and financial support to districts, independent cities and special-status cities with the WIR state program in order to shape a future-oriented integration policy in Hesse. The WIR state program aims in particular to further develop structures in all public fields of action in order to align them with a linguistically, culturally and religiously diverse society. Due to the disadvantages that can be observed in many immigrant population groups in various areas of life (e.g. in the education system, on the labour market or with regard to housing), integration policy in Hesse is now increasingly focusing on recognizing these forms of disadvantage and acknowledging diversity in the immigration society.
The WIR coordinators implement the objectives formulated in the Hessian Integration and Participation Act (IntTG) § 11 in the respective region.
The goals of the WIR centers of diversity are
1. to improve the participation opportunities of people with a history of migration by developing and implementing municipal integration policy strategies and intercultural concepts,
2. to strengthen the intercultural opening of the administration, clubs and associations
3. to strengthen civic engagement for and by people with a history of migration in cooperation with local stakeholders,
4. Develop and promote measures for a socio-spatial culture of welcome and recognition in municipalities and districts,
5. Develop forms of participation, networking and transparency as part of integration management and
6. Counteract discrimination and racism.
Bad Homburg has been participating in the WIR program of the state of Hesse since 2016.
