A joint project between the towns of Bad Homburg, Friedrichsdorf, Oberursel, Steinbach, Eschborn and Frankfurt is the planning and construction of the Vordertaunus / FRM5 cycle highway. Since its initiation in 2016, Bad Homburg has been involved in the preparation and planning as a founding member of the inter-municipal joint project. The regional association is responsible for coordination and leadership.
The FRM5 is part of an overarching network of currently eight other high-speed cycle paths for the entire Rhine-Main region, which are already in various stages of planning and implementation. The FRM5 is one of the most important infrastructure plans for Bad Homburg and the neighboring north-eastern Rhine-Main region.
Feasibility study shows advantages
A feasibility study demonstrates the considerable added traffic value for Bad Homburg and the other municipalities involved:
- Target group of the cycle highway: commuters (increasing the attractiveness of the business location), tourism, residents of the Vordertaunus region
- Involvement of citizens, public bodies and other institutions in determining the preferred route and developing the study
- Up to 5,300 cycle trips per day and section with more than 45,000 commuters daily between the project municipalities
- At 8.16 km, Bad Homburg benefits from the second-longest route section after the city of Frankfurt, followed by Oberursel, with a total length of 37.4 km, 34 km of which is to cycle highway standard.
- Determined user potential including modal shift potential: Over 2100 commuters daily for Bad Homburg alone. Of these, over 1000 commuters switch from car to bike.
- Relief for our roads and railways
