Groundwater monitoring
Since 2003, a groundwater monitoring system (groundwater monitoring) has been set up at considerable expense and has been continuously maintained ever since. Initially, more than 350 known wells and groundwater measuring points had to be recorded, evaluated and checked. It was then determined whether it would be possible to monitor the groundwater comprehensively. As a result, it was found that it was not yet possible to guarantee comprehensive monitoring, so a further 30 or so new monitoring points were built. Since then, around 70 measuring points have been recorded as permanent groundwater monitoring facilities in the groundwater monitoring system and are evaluated annually. The measurements, which include the groundwater levels as well as the chemical composition of the water, are used to determine various data. These include nitrate pollution from agriculture and the influence of contaminated sites, as well as the groundwater's distance from the surface - i.e. how far the groundwater can be found below the top edge of the ground. This information helps to avoid and identify hazards so that appropriate measures can be taken. More detailed information can be found in the report and the maps (see downloads).
Floodplains
The RP Darmstadt has designated the floodplains of the Erlenbach, Eschbach and Seulbach streams. Further information, explanations and legal information can also be found on the website of the Darmstadt Regional Council (RP)
