KSI: Replacing the mushroom lamp with an LED
The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety has launched a program. It is for cities and social and cultural institutions. The town of Bad Homburg v.d.Höhe applied. It has received money. It is about 13,600 euros. The money is for an LED light. The light saves energy.
The first project was in 2009, when lights were replaced on Hessen- and Hindenburgring.
There was a survey in the Chattenweg residential area. The city and the Taunus-Zeitung newspaper conducted it. Seven different LED lights were installed. The choice fell on the "Spanish Hat". Since January 2013, 56 mushroom lights have been replaced. The new model is being installed. This cost a total of 54,400 euros.
The new lights will last 20 years. They consume less electricity. This produces less carbon dioxide. In 20 years, 320 tons less carbon dioxide will be produced.
The town of Bad Homburg v.d.Höhe hopes to save energy. It wants to be a role model for other towns. The results should help. They should help with decisions for new projects.
